Why shop owners stay with a supplier they don’t love

Ask an independent shop owner about their wholesaler and you’ll often hear a sigh. Deliveries run late. Orders arrive short. The rep who used to call every month has moved on. And yet, a year later, they’re still ordering from the same place.

It isn’t loyalty. It’s risk. Switching suppliers means trusting a stranger with your shelves. If the new one lets you down, the gaps are visible to every customer who walks in. So most owners put up with “good enough” rather than gamble on someone they found through a search.

Shop owners don’t switch suppliers. They switch when someone they trust points the way.

Meanwhile, plenty of wholesalers have exactly what those shops want: reliable stock, fair terms, and someone who answers the phone. Their problem is getting through the door. Cold emails go unread, and a sales visit without an appointment rarely gets past the counter.

That’s where an introduction helps. We find the shops that are actually open to a new supplier: a store that just opened, one adding a new range, or one that’s told us its current wholesaler keeps letting it down. Then we introduce a wholesaler that fits what they sell and where they are.

For the shop, it’s a supplier that comes with a reason to trust them. For the wholesaler, a single good store can become a standing order every month, and a small chain can multiply that several times over.
